Job Description:
The Chemistry Department is seeking a part-time instructor to teach CHE 412/612: Metals in Medicine for the Spring 2024 semester. This course explores bonding, stereochemistry, and properties of metallo-drugs and diagnostic agents. Topics include platinum compounds for treating cancer, gadolinium and technetium in biomedical imaging, and porphyrins in photo-dynamic therapy.
The lecture meets in-person each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am-10:25am. The instructor will be supported by being provided syllabus templates and assistance related to exam preparation and assignments. Office staff aid with class logistics and student organization. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.

Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a Ph.D., or working towards a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.

Job Specific Qualifications:
Candidates should have a previous experience teaching college chemistry courses

Responsibilities:
  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
